Twice Awake

5th November - 19th December 2025, Oonagh Young Gallery, 1 James Joyce Street, Dublin 1 Ireland

Oonagh Young Gallery presented Adrian O'Carroll in his first solo exhibition TWICE AWAKE. The camera, for him, has become a tool of personal expression delving into the profound dialogue between the self and its surroundings. His chosen domain, landscape photography, transcends the picturesque. It is explored as a dualistic realm: a sanctuary for reflection and, simultaneously, a mirror of the unpredictable and the unsettling. O'Carroll draws his gaze across the geological spectrum, featuring the ancient, deep-time solidity of Wicklow alongside the raw, geologically nascent volatility of Iceland. Yet, his inquiry deliberately shuns the search for mere beauty or serenity.Instead, O'Carroll's work is an excavation of the unresolved. Through the deliberate use of a darkly muted palette and a lean toward abstraction, he strips away the familiarity of these scenes to reveal a deeper, disquieting resonance. The external landscape becomes a projection of the internal terrain, presenting the viewer with all that remains complex and unsettled within the human psyche.
